Houston Zoo #8

As I looked at this bird, I could not help but wonder why they stand on one leg.  It does not look comfortable.  I thought that the bottom portion of the body and the top part of the legs might make for an interesting perspective of this unusual practice.  I should have used a larger aperture so that the background would have a little more blurred.

Enjoy.

Camera settings: Nikon D3, 300mm f/4 with 1.7x teleconverter attached (effective 500mm lens), shot at ISO 200, f/11 and 1/90 of a second on tripod

  1. Different. Is this a real Larry Patrick bird photograph and the other ones face? I want more like yesterdays!

  2. I like it. One white and one green space shape on the diagonol with a splash of red dead center. I'm thinking it might make and interesting abstract by motion blur, cross processing, or ?? Or just leave it as a nice highly detailed nature shot with something left to the imagination.

  3. I cannot decide on this one. I can see some good points and some bad ones about this. I do not think I would go back and look at it if it was hanging on a wall.

  4. I have to be honest here. I don't like it. It just doesn't do anything for me.

I'm thinking the only way it would make me look twice is if it was close enough to just see the feet in macro or up close. That would only happen with more focal length or a dead bird.

  5. My last comment comes across as harsh in my last sentence. It wasn't meant to be that way. It was just an indication that the bird was penned up and macro wasn't an option in that scenario.

    Sorry.

  6. I actually enjoy this image as a detail piece. The fresh perspective of it really encompasses the fact that birds can be photographed in a variety of ways.

  7. I follow this blog and it seems DHaass often has negative things to say and you never respond. In fact, you rarely respond to anything. Why?
DHaass, please direct me to your pix so I can see how much better they are than the ones on this blog.
