From a Simpler Time

I spent many hours sitting in these rocking chairs--doing little but watching the world go by and talking to my family and friends.   I wanted the photo to reflect the simple nature of this place and the time from which it came.

Camera settings:  Nikon D3, 28-70 f/2.8 at 40mm, shot at ISO 200, f/16 and 1/60 of a second, white balance set at cloudy

Post Processing:

Lightroom—set white and black point, and added mid-tone contrast, added clarity.

Photoshop—converted to black and white using nik Silver Efex Pro.

  1. This is a really pleasing shot Patrick! I love the rhythm created by the row of rockers. I also like that you included the distant view of a neighboring home for some context.

    Well done!

    Cheers!

  3. Reminds me of where I grew up. The picture has a lot of emotional impact for such a simple scene. Hope to see more pictures of daily life.

  5. Not one that you go: WOW. But, one that you would go back and look at a few times if it were hanging somewhere. I wish you would have done this in muted colors rather than black and white. For some reason that seems to be how I would think of this picture.
