Family Cheering Family

Before I discuss today’s photo, I would like to write a few words about last weeks photo. I appreciate all the comments that everyone took the time to write, however, I would prefer that people keep from criticizing other’s opinions. I do not see that helping anyone. I do fully expect a critical analysis of everything I post; that is why I post my work. Now, about today’s post.

Probably the neatest aspect of the Houston Marathon is meeting lots of family members who are cheering their fellow members.

Meet Annie. Her brother and cousin were running in the Fun Run and her father was running in the half marathon. She was at the starting line cheering each of them off and was planning on being near the finish line cheering them. She told me about each one of them and how proud she was of all of them. Great conversion with a really cute young lady.

After we talked a while, she asked me to take her picture for her dad. I wanted this photo to be about her enthusiasm and her child-like charm.

Enjoy.

Camera settings: Nikon D3, Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 at 70mm shot at ISO 800, f/4.8 and 1/350th of a second.

Post Processing:

Lightroom—Set white and black points, added mid-tone contrast, added clarity and reduced saturation of pink to reduce affect of pompoms.

  1. Not as dramatic as last week's portrait, but a nice one of Annie. She seems like she has lots of personality.

  2. Nice environmental portrait. The bright colors of Annie's clothes makes her stand out from the background. Good dynamic lines.

  3. The lighting and the colors seem to be off. Not sure what I would do to correct it.

I think Annie's Dad will like the shot a lot!

    Cheers!

  5. I can see what Anne is saying, but I think it is more a problem with the colors not going together very well. Her face and the background have a yellow tint to it and that just does not go with the pink and magenta of her clothes and pompoms. Her expression and poise are great. Too bad the colors were not cooperative.

  6. I like her expression and jester, but, like Anne, there is something that just does not seem right with this one. She does seem to have a lot of personality.

  7. Considering all the bright pinks and reds close to her face I think you pretty much nailed the skin tones. I think you connected with her in the photo. Her placement in the frame is well executed as well as the OOF background. Well done.

  8. I am not bothered by the color combination. To me, it makes Annie stand out from the background. Her expression and poise is what I see when I look at this portrait.

  9. I think this is a neat natural shot of a special young girl. A fun loving smile of the moment. I like the disappearing hands on a cool morning. Agree with Ted's comments.

  10. Annie seems so relaxed in front of your lens. I think this girl has a big future as a super model, especially if she retains that natural, warm smile. Good photo.
